“When a man becomes a fireman his greatest act of bravery has been accomplished.  What he does after that is all in the line of work” Edward F. Croker

Want to be a volunteer firefighter/EMT?  Whether you live in or out of the City of Sandpoint, you are eligible to volunteer.  The Sandpoint Fire Department is constantly looking for individuals that are interested in making a difference in the community.  There are no experience or training requirements for membership.

Volunteer firefighters need more than just a desire to help people.  They need courage, dedication, and the willingness to learn new skills and face new challenges.  Volunteer firefighters influence outcomes that directly affect people’s lives by responding at a moment’s notice, whether it’s day or night, to put fire out, respond to emergency medical calls, or to rescue that person in harm’s way.

Your experience as a volunteer can be very gratifying but requires ongoing training and participation on your part.  Training includes initial recruit fire training with national certification (IFSAC Firefighter 1), Hazardous Materials training, Emergency Medical Technician training, and several Technical Rescue disciplines.
